Thank you to all who participated in the London Seminar! Everybody had a great time and learned a lot, so keep up the hard work and enthusiasm!!
We are now back to our regular training schedule. This week we worked on both Bear Soft and Phoenix Dodging to help differentiate the forces. For today's training log, I will focus on Phoenix Dodging. When doing the strikes, really pay attention to the transforming movements between the strikes, and how this is different from Bear Soft. Here is what went down:
Phoenix Representational Posture 2min30sec/side x 3
Phoenix Transforming Posture 2min30sec/side
Saber Swings - 65/side
Scoop the Moon - 10/side
Opening Dodging 100/side stationary, immediately followed by 4-step 50/side
Whirling Dodging 100/side stationary, immediately followed by 4-step 50/side
Arcing Dodging 100/side stationary, immediately followed by 4-step 50/side
Inside Dodge 100/side stationary, immediately followed by 4-step 50/side
*Note* Try to do these strikes all within an hour to keep the heart rate up. That's well over 1000 strike in an hour!
Strike Pad 30 Minutes
If you have the equipment, try out some of your strikes on a strike pad, heavy bag, or whatever you can find. Film this if possible. You can learn so much from just doing 5-10 strikes per side on a target. For instance, when I train the Opening Dodging strike as a stationary strike, it feels weak, but on the pad I found that it is actually quite a devastating strike. I found the opposite is true for my Arcing Dodge. Use this feedback to enhance and focus your training!
Double Slapping Dodge 100/side
Double Opening Dodge 100/side
Combos (50/side each):
Forcing Transform + Covering Transform + Opening Dodge
Forcing Transform + Flowing Transform + Arcing Dodge
Forcing Transform + Inside Dodging (to the face) + Inside Dodging (to the back of the head)
Forcing Transform + Inside Dodging + Fist Curling-In (from on top of the arm to the face)
Opening Slap-Dodge (from the Enfolding forms) + Arcing Fist Curling-In
Opening Dodge + Rolling Transform Stab + Covering Transform + Fist Curling-In
See if you can interlock these movements and figure out how they are applied. Train hard!
